New music for lower voices

Be inspired by new music from our In the deep series for lower voices, with settings of a popular folk song and a poem by Arthur O’Shaughnessy, and the third movement of Four Welsh Psalms.

Edward-Rhys Harry

'A Blessing for Bendigeidfran' is the third movement of Four Welsh Psalms. It was recorded by the London Welsh Male Voice Choir, and this was chosen as one of Classic FM's 'Platinum Performances' in 2022. The stirring melody illuminates the inspiring lyrics in both English and Welsh by Grahame Davies.

Michael Higgins

Higgins's setting of this popular folk song is simple and wistful, particularly well-suited for children's and youth choirs. With delicate quaver flourishes, the piano accompaniment flows gently alongside the vocal lines, creating suspensions that reflect the mysterious demands of the narrator.
